Business Mindset - Side Hustles

Starting a business can help you to achieve financial independence, turn a hobby or skill into a regular income, solve a social problem that you care about or learn new skills that will make you more employable. It can help you to create your own job and earn an income in a way that is more complimentary to your own lifestyle. Anyone can start a business. Ian Mason has created several businesses in his career so far - he's also been lucky enough to create a business on behalf of Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group. That company, Virgin StartUp, helped thousands of entrepreneurs and small business owners, people like you, to start their business. Ian believes that programs for people that want to build their own business, should be delivered by people that have done so themselves. Business Mindset is Highlands Hub’s flagship program for your new business ideas. Delivered by Ian in his typical no-nonsense, practical and engaging manner, the program will help you understand what it takes to successfully start a business, and show you how to take the first steps toward doing so yourself. If you're curious about starting a business, or have recently started one, and want to find out how to reach your goals and ambitions – large or small - this program is for you. Building a business is a humbling experience – so support to help people doing so should be humble too. Who is this program for and what will I learn? This workshop is designed to support anyone looking to develop their business idea. During the program: You’ll explore some key strategies that will help you to discover the potential of your idea; You'll learn how to talk freely and confidently about your idea as a business and in a way that people can understand and relate to;You’ll learn techniques to help you make the most of your scarce resources – time, money and knowledge; You'll leave with a strong idea of the next steps you need to take to turn your business idea into reality. Just as important, is what you WON’T experience in this program.  Throughout, you’ll never hear jargon, unrelatable content, or judgment, just practical knowledge that’s relevant and easy to apply, delivered in a supportive, nurturing and constructive environment, from people that have, very recently and successfully, started and grown their own business. Who is Ian Mason and what do people say about him? Ian is an experienced company founder, having built multiple brands that affect change in communities across the world. His portfolio of companies includes, most notably, an education technology company that teaches children to learn to read and a company that provides leadership development programs to individuals and corporate clients, that include the likes of AstraZeneca and the U.K. Government. In 2013, Ian played a key role in the creation of a company and a proposition that could deliver business support to entrepreneurs and SMEs at scale, on behalf of Sir Richard Branson. The result of this work, Virgin StartUp, was a collection of programs and funding opportunities, delivered by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs looking to start, fund and scale their business. Within 5 years of founding, Virgin StartUp had delivered support to thousands of U.K.–based start-ups and SMEs, making it one of the largest such organisations in the country. After leaving Virgin, he then went on to create Humble, another business support organization, with the vision that entrepreneurship can be a huge driver of social mobility, financial independence and upskilling, not just a vehicle for creating billion dollar companies. Over 3,000 people have benefitted from Humble’s programs over the last 4 years, more than half of whom are female. He has also held over a dozen Entrepreneur-in-Residence roles at various incubators and accelerators globally. Ian started his career as an economist, working in economic development in local, regional and then national Government in the UK, before becoming Head of Policy and Public Affairs at London Chamber of Commerce in the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis. He left this work to pursue his dream of working for Sir Richard Branson and later to go his own way as an entrepreneur. When he’s not building businesses or helping others to build businesses, Ian enjoys playing football, marathon running, motorsport, falconry, shooting, ballroom dancing, and listening to jazz/swing music. He is a member of MENSA and avid supporter of Aston Villa Football Club.  “One of the most informative things I’ve ever done” Alice “The language was easy to understand – a lot of us didn’t come from a business background.
